Spiral Staircase Socks were particularly designed for cotton-blend sock yarns, and are a wonderful way to show off variegated colors. The stitch pattern is nearly as stretchy as ribbing, giving extra flexibility to a sock knit from stiffer yarns, allowing you to take full advantage of cooler cotton yarns, and still have a well-fit sock. The stitch pattern is also well-defined enough to show up dramatically against a multi-colored background. This pattern will give you a lovely, hard wearing, cool summer cotton sock. Beginner to intermediate level.
Finished size: US women's shoe size 8. Foot length 9 inches.
Gauge: 10 SPI on US 0 (2mm)
Materials Needed:
- 100 grams (aprx 420 meters) sock yarn. I used Fortissima Socka Cotton Colorsin color #6512, but any variegated cotton/wool/nylon blend yarn will give similar results. Recommended yarns include Sockotta, Knitpicks Dancing, Regia bamboo, Meilenweit Cotton Fun, and similar yarns. Will also work well with handpainted or other variegated wool sock yarns.
- 5 - 2mm (US size 0) double pointed sock needles, or size needed to obtain gauge (10 st/inch). Metal needles are best as cotton yarns don't slide well on bamboo.
- Narrow tapestry needle for finishing
