These awareness ribbon socks will let you show your support for the cause of your choice. Available in both cable and lace versions, these awareness socks carefully mimic the effect of a folded ribbon. They can be knit in a range of solid, striped or variegated yarns to match the cause of your choice (hint: self striping yarns really do capture the puzzle effect of the Autism ribbon...) Both socks are worked cuff down with short row heels and grafted toes, and come in a wide range of sizes to accommodate almost any sport or sock weight yarn. Whether you're participating in a sporting event to raise money for a cause, supporting an athlete in such an event, or just want a comfortable sock with a message, these socks will help you share your devotion to a worthwhile cause.
Supplies:
- Aprx 75 grams of sort or sock weight yarn in color appropriate to your cause.
Shown in Silja color 309, Cherry Red, 164 yds to 50 g, 2 balls - Size 0-3 US knitting needles in 5 DPN's, 1 long circular for Magic Loop, or 2 circulars
Choose size 2-3 needles for sport weight yarn or size 0-1 needles for fingering weight yarn
Socks shown knit with set of 5 DPN's in size 2.5mm (US 1.5) at 8 stitches per inch - Cable needle & Tapestry needle for finishing.
Finished size depends on gauge and size chosen. Pattern allows for cast on of 48-96 stitches and should fit young children through adult men.
Cabled version:
Crafted with Barbara Walker's ring cable techniques, this ribbon makes an unbroken arc from right to left for a remarkably realistic look. The body of the sock is designed in reverse stockinette, both for comfort and so as not to detract from the ribbon motif.
Lace Version:
This lace ribbon uses both the pattern of holes and the line of decreases to etch a ribbon pattern. Although less realistic than the cabled version, it is more airy and light for running and sports. It is knit in stockinette for ease of knitting and to flow evenly with the lace pattern.

Awareness Sports Socks patterns are available individaully for $5.00 each (in electronic form, as a PDF), and for $7.50 for both patterns.
